Heilasamskipanir is Icelandic for brain networks, referring to the distributed system of interconnected brain regions that work together to support perception, action, memory and higher cognition. The concept encompasses both structural networks, defined by anatomical white matter tracts that physically connect regions, and functional networks, characterized by coordinated patterns of activity that emerge as the brain processes information or rests.
