Gyulladásgátlók, or anti-inflammatory drugs, are a class of medications used to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and lower fever. Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury or infection, characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain. While often beneficial, chronic or excessive inflammation can lead to various diseases.

There are two main categories of gyulladásgátlók: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids. NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, work by inhibiting enzymes called cyclooxygenases (COX), which are involved in producing prostaglandins, chemicals that promote inflammation and pain. Corticosteroids, like prednisone, are synthetic versions of hormones produced by the adrenal glands. They are potent anti-inflammatory agents that work through multiple mechanisms, including suppressing the immune system.

Gyulladásgátlók are prescribed for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, injuries, headaches, menstrual cramps, and autoimmune diseases. While effective, they can have side effects. NSAIDs can cause gastrointestinal problems, cardiovascular issues, and kidney damage, especially with long-term use. Corticosteroids can lead to weight gain, mood changes, increased risk of infection, and bone thinning. Therefore, it is crucial to use these medications under medical supervision and at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Alternative therapies and lifestyle modifications are also important considerations in managing inflammation.
