Gummibelagt is a term used in Swedish to describe a surface that has been coated with rubber. The coating can be natural rubber or a synthetic rubber compound such as nitrile, neoprene, SBR, or EPDM, and is applied to enhance grip, abrasion resistance, electrical insulation, or chemical resistance. The rubber layer is typically bonded to a substrate through adhesion promoters and curing processes, often involving vulcanization for thermoset rubbers.

Applications include tool handles, grips on sports equipment, hoses, rollers, belts, protective housings, and various automotive or industrial components. Coating methods commonly used are dipping, brushing, spraying, and extrusion, with thickness ranging from thin films to durable layers several tenths of a millimeter to a few millimeters, depending on the application. In many cases, coatings are applied to improve user comfort and safety or to prolong service life by reducing wear and moisture ingress.

Benefits of gummibelagt surfaces include improved grip and damping, electrical insulation, weathering and chemical resistance, and protection against abrasion. Limitations include aging and degradation due to UV light, ozone, heat, and chemicals, the possibility of adhesion failure if the bond to the substrate is weak, and potential increases in cost or weight. Maintenance typically involves inspection for cracks or delamination and re-coating when necessary; some applications allow for spot repairs rather than full recoating.
