Ginecologic, or gynecologic, refers to the medical field that focuses on the female reproductive system and female reproductive health. The term covers diseases, conditions, procedures, and care related to the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, and surrounding structures, as well as hormonal regulation and menopause.

Gynecologists provide preventive care, screening, and counseling on contraception. They diagnose and treat menstrual disorders, infertility, infections, sexual health concerns, and hormonal disorders, and they perform surgeries when needed. Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is a common combined specialty, with obstetrics focusing on pregnancy and childbirth.

Diagnostic tools include pelvic examination, Pap smear and HPV testing, transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound, colposcopy, and hysteroscopy. Treatments range from medications (hormonal therapies, antibiotics) to surgical options such as laparoscopy, hysterectomy, myomectomy, and oophorectomy.

Conditions frequently managed in gynecology include abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, menopause-related symptoms, cervical dysplasia, and various gynecologic cancers (cervical, endometrial/uterine, ovarian, vaginal, vulvar).

Training involves completing a medical degree and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, with many physicians pursuing subspecialty fellowships in areas such as gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, urogynecology, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, or maternal-fetal medicine.
