Geolokaatiossa, often referred to as geolocation, is the process of identifying the real-world geographic location of an object, such as a mobile phone, computer, or other device. This location information is typically derived from various data sources and technologies.

One primary method of geolocation involves the use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). Devices equipped with GNSS receivers can determine their latitude and longitude by triangulating signals from multiple satellites. Another common technique utilizes Wi-Fi positioning. By scanning for nearby Wi-Fi networks and comparing their unique identifiers (SSIDs) and signal strengths to a database of known locations, a device can estimate its position.

Cellular network triangulation is also a significant method, particularly for mobile devices. By measuring the signal strength and timing from multiple cell towers, a device's location can be approximated. Additionally, IP address geolocation can infer a general location based on the public IP address assigned to a device, although this is generally less precise than other methods.

Geolocation has numerous applications across various industries. In law enforcement and emergency services, it aids in tracking individuals and responding to distress calls.
