An enkeltteleskop, or monocular telescope, is a single-tube optical instrument designed for viewing distant objects with one eye. Unlike binoculars, which combine two telescopes in a single housing, a monocular telescope offers a simpler and more compact design while providing high magnification and clarity. These instruments are commonly used in astronomy, wildlife observation, birdwatching, and long-distance sports viewing.

Enkeltteleskopes typically consist of an objective lens or mirror at the front, which gathers incoming light, and an eyepiece at the rear, where the observer places their eye. The magnification power is determined by the ratio of the focal length of the objective to that of the eyepiece. For example, a telescope with a 1000mm objective and a 10mm eyepiece would provide 100x magnification. Higher magnification allows for closer viewing of distant objects but often reduces the field of view and image stability.

These telescopes are available in various types, including refractors (using lenses), reflectors (using mirrors), and catadioptrics (combining lenses and mirrors). Refractors are known for their sharp images and low maintenance, while reflectors are often more affordable and offer larger apertures for better light-gathering capabilities. Catadioptrics, such as Schmidt-Cassegrains, provide a compact design with high portability.

Enkeltteleskopes are favored by enthusiasts for their versatility and ease of use. They can be mounted on tripods or handheld, depending on the model and intended application. Some advanced models include features like adjustable eyepieces, quick-release mounts, and built-in finderscopes for easier target acquisition. Proper use and care, such as storing the telescope in a dry place and cleaning lenses gently, help maintain optimal performance.
