A dock platform is a raised surface at a dock, quay, or wharf that provides access for loading and unloading ships and for staging cargo, equipment, or passengers. The platform typically aligns with vessel deck heights and supports the use of port equipment such as cranes, roll-on/roll-off ramps, and conveyors.

Types and configurations: Fixed dock platforms are attached to the shore or wharf and remain stationary with the tide. Floating dock platforms consist of buoyant units that rise and fall with water level, providing adaptable clearance. Some platforms are modular, assembled from separate units to fit a berth length, while others are part of a larger quay complex with integrated gangways and access tunnels.

Construction and materials: Common materials include reinforced concrete, steel, and timber, chosen for durability in marine environments. Decks are typically finished with non-slip coatings. Structures incorporate fenders, bollards, lighting, drainage, and sometimes utility connections for power and water. Design considers tidal range, vessel sizes, traffic flow, and safety requirements.

Operations and safety: Dock platforms support loading, unloading, and temporary storage. Safety features include guard rails or barriers, non-slip decking, clear signage, adequate lighting, and regular inspection of structural integrity and mooring attachments. Maintenance involves corrosion protection, paint, and replacement of worn components.
