Detektoriarrayn refers to a detector array, a system composed of multiple sensing elements arranged to cover a region and collect signals from radiation or particles. In Finnish-language and technical contexts, the term denotes spatially distributed detectors used in science and applied fields to achieve higher coverage, redundancy, and detailed information about the incident signal.

A detector array typically includes detector elements, readout electronics, calibration hardware, mechanical support, and shielding. The elements can be semiconductor diodes (such as silicon), scintillator blocks coupled to photodetectors (photomultiplier tubes or silicon photomultipliers), gas-filled chambers, or imaging sensors (CMOS or CCD) in imaging-oriented arrays. The arrangement—grid, hexagonal, cylindrical, or other geometries—determines spatial resolution, acceptance, and uniformity of response. Readout channels are often multiplexed, providing timing, energy deposition, and/or hit position for each element.

Operation involves converting incident energy into electrical signals, which are digitized and processed to reconstruct events or images. The array yields a two- or three-dimensional map of signal intensity, sometimes with timing or energy information per element. Calibration aligns channel responses, corrects gain variations, and compensates for environmental factors such as temperature or magnetic fields.
