bomblet
A bomblet is a small explosive submunition designed to be dispersed from a larger munition, such as a cluster bomb, artillery rocket, or mine dispenser. Each bomblet is intended to detonate or release its payload to achieve effects across a wider area. Depending on its design, a bomblet may be a fragmentation device, anti-personnel, anti-armor, incendiary, smoke, or illumination type. Some are designed to detonate on impact, while others use timed fuzes or airburst timing to maximize coverage.
Bomblets are packed inside a larger delivery weapon and released in flight or upon a mechanical discharge.
