Blokpallets, also known as block pallets, are a type of wooden pallet distinguished by a lattice of supporting blocks that separate the upper and lower decks. This arrangement creates four-way forklift access, allowing entry from all sides, which enhances maneuverability in tight spaces and improves load stability for heavier or irregular items.

Construction and dimensions vary by region. A blokpallet typically uses timber blocks placed at the corners and at internal positions to form a rigid framework between the upper and lower decks. The upper deck is usually made of boards, while the lower deck may use boards or a similar pattern of supports. Materials are commonly hardwood or softwood, and pallets can be treated or untreated depending on their intended use.

Applications and advantages. Blokpallets are favored in warehousing and transport settings that require strong four-way access and high load-bearing capacity. They distribute weight more evenly across the pallet and are generally more durable under heavy usage than two-way or stringer pallets. Damaged blocks or boards can often be replaced, extending the pallet’s life. They are widely used for export shipments when four-way entry is needed and ISPM 15 heat treatment is required.

Limitations and care. Blokpallets tend to be heavier and more material-intensive than some other pallet designs, which can raise cost and handling effort. They require proper moisture control to prevent warping and may require routine inspection and repair. For end-of-life management, they can be repaired, reused, or recycled into other wood products.

Export and standards. For international shipments, blokpallets often comply with ISPM 15 via heat treatment or fumigation, ensuring they meet phytosanitary requirements.
