An augmentationer is a person, device, or system that enhances human capabilities through augmentation technologies. The term, formed from augment and -er, is used in design and academic discussions to describe agents that extend sensory, cognitive, or motor functions beyond an unaugmented baseline.

Forms of augmentationers range from wearable and implantable hardware to software and algorithmic systems. Hardware augmentationers include neural interfaces and brain-computer interfaces, exoskeletons, sensory prostheses, and augmented-reality or haptic devices that expand perception and actuation. Software augmentationers encompass artificial intelligence assistants, decision-support platforms, and predictive analytics that augment judgment and planning. Integrated approaches combine hardware and software to create embodied or distributed augmentation.

Applications span healthcare, where implants restore function and rehabilitation tools assist recovery; industry and construction for precision and safety; transportation and aerospace for enhanced situational awareness; and education and accessibility, where cognitive aids and assistive technologies support learning and participation.

Challenges include safety, reliability, and interoperability; concerns about privacy and data security; risks of over-reliance or cognitive offloading; and ethical and social implications such as equity of access and potential job displacement. Development often emphasizes standards, certification, and user-centered design to mitigate harm and maximize benefits.
