As-is analysis, sometimes written as as-is analysis or referred to by the non-English term asisanalyse, is a method used in business analysis, process management, and enterprise architecture to study the present state of a process, system, or operation. The goal is to understand how work actually occurs today, including the sequence of activities, roles, information flows, technologies, data, and performance.

The scope typically covers current workflows, inputs and outputs, decision points, handoffs, and supporting tools. Data collection methods include interviews with stakeholders, direct observation, document review, and analysis of system logs or event data (process mining). Process models, flowcharts, value-stream maps, or BPMN diagrams are commonly produced to visualize as-is conditions and to identify bottlenecks, redundancies, delays, and quality issues.

Outputs of an as-is analysis often include a documented baseline process model, a list of problems and pain points, measured or estimated performance metrics (such as cycle time, lead time, cost, and defect rates), and a gap analysis relative to desired outcomes. This documentation provides a baseline for improvement initiatives and for developing a to-be state, enabling stakeholders to assess potential benefits and required changes.

Challenges can include incomplete or opaque processes, data quality issues, cross-functional boundaries, and resistance to change. As-is analysis is frequently a precursor to redesign efforts, IT modernization, regulatory compliance, or efficiency programs, and is closely linked to subsequent to-be analysis and transformation planning.
