It belongs to the Araceae family, which also includes plants like philodendrons and peace lilies. Arrowarum is prized for its distinctive foliage and unique, spathe-shaped flowers, though it is considered toxic and should be handled with care.

The plant features glossy, arrow-shaped leaves that grow on long stalks, giving it a striking appearance. Its flowers emerge from a spathe, a modified leaf that resembles a hood or arrowhead, hence the common name.
