Alvöversvämningar, meaning "all floods" in Swedish, refers to a catastrophic and widespread inundation affecting vast geographical areas. These are not localized river overflows or coastal surges but rather events that encompass multiple, often diverse, types of flooding simultaneously or in rapid succession across a significant portion of a region, country, or even continent. The term implies a scale and severity far beyond typical flood events.

Such occurrences can be triggered by a combination of factors. Prolonged, heavy rainfall over a large catchment area can lead to rivers overflowing their banks across entire drainage basins. This can be exacerbated by rapid snowmelt in mountainous regions, especially when combined with precipitation.
