Zystenentfernung refers to the surgical or non-surgical procedures undertaken to remove cysts. A cyst is a closed sac, typically containing fluid or semi-solid material, that can form on or within any part of the body. The decision to remove a cyst is usually based on factors such as its size, location, the presence of symptoms like pain or discomfort, or concern about malignancy.

There are various methods for cyst removal. Surgical excision is a common approach, where the cyst and its surrounding capsule are completely removed through an incision. This is often done under local or general anesthesia, depending on the size and location of the cyst. The excised tissue is frequently sent for histological examination to confirm its nature and rule out any cancerous changes.

Another method, particularly for fluid-filled cysts, is aspiration. This involves using a needle to drain the contents of the cyst. While this can provide immediate relief from pressure or size, it may not remove the cyst wall, leading to a higher chance of recurrence. In some cases, particularly for smaller or superficial cysts, less invasive techniques like drainage or marsupialization might be employed. Marsupialization involves creating an opening in the cyst and stitching the edges to the surrounding skin, allowing the cyst to drain and heal. The specific method chosen depends on the type of cyst, its characteristics, and the patient's overall health. Post-procedure care typically involves wound management and follow-up appointments to monitor healing and check for recurrence.
