Xolotls

Xolotls (singular Xoloitzcuintli, also known as Mexican Hairless Dogs) are an ancient breed of dog originating from Mexico. They are one of the oldest dog breeds in the Americas, dating back to the time of the Aztecs and Mayans. There are three sizes of Xolotls, ranging from toy to giant, and they can be either hairless or coated.

Physical characteristics of Xolotls vary greatly, with some individuals being completely hairless, while others have a thin undercoat. Their skin is typically wrinkled, and they require regular skin care to maintain its health. Their eyes can be open or closed at birth, and they usually open their eyes within 2-3 weeks. Xolotls are known for their long, narrow muzzle and their curious, expressive faces.

Xolotls are a working breed that has traditionally been used for guarding, hunting, and companionship. They are intelligent and trainable, but they can be independent and stubborn at times. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and stress. In the past, Xolotls were considered sacred animals in Aztec and Mayan cultures, and were often associated with the god Xolotl, who was believed to guide souls to the afterlife.

Today, Xolotls are recognized by kennel clubs around the world, including the American Kennel Club, and are available in a variety of colors and sizes. They are generally a healthy breed, but can be prone to certain health issues, such as skin problems and tooth decay, due to their unique skin and dental characteristics. With proper care and attention, Xolotls can make wonderful companions and family pets.
