Mexican

Mexican is the demonym for people from Mexico, and an adjective describing things associated with the country, its culture, or its language. The term is widely used in reference to the nation and its inhabitants, as well as to things of Mexican origin such as food, art, or music.

Mexico, officially the United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos), is a federal republic located in North America. It comprises 32 federal entities, including 31 states and the capital, Mexico City. The country spans diverse landscapes, from deserts and mountains to tropical forests, with coastlines on the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea.

The dominant language is Spanish, though Mexico recognizes numerous indigenous languages and preserves rich linguistic diversity. Mexican Spanish forms a regional variety with distinctive pronunciation, vocabulary, and expressions. Mexican culture is equally diverse, encompassing Indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-Mexican influences, and a wide range of regional cuisines, arts, and traditions.

Historically, the region was home to advanced civilizations such as the Maya, Aztec, and Olmec before Spanish colonization began in the 16th century. Mexico gained independence in 1821 and established a federal constitutional republic. Today, the term Mexican encompasses citizens and residents of the country, as well as people of Mexican heritage living abroad.
