Mexicanos

Mexicanos are people who are citizens of Mexico or who identify with Mexican nationality. The word mexicano (masc.) and mexicana (fem.) are used in Spanish. Identity may reflect a mix of Indigenous, European, and African heritage, regional affiliations, and shared historical experiences.

Mexico is a country in North America with a large, diverse population. The majority live in Mexico, but there is a large Mexican diaspora, notably in the United States, as well as smaller communities in Canada and other countries. Indigenous peoples—such as Nahua, Maya, Zapotec, and Mixtec—maintain languages and traditions alongside Spanish, which is the dominant language nationwide. The constitution recognizes numerous indigenous languages and cultural rights.

Culturally, Mexican society is characterized by regional cuisines, music, crafts, and festivals. Diet heavily features corn, beans, chili peppers, and a variety of regional specialties; Día de los Muertos and other holidays are widely observed. Mexican literature, cinema, and art have gained international recognition.

Politically, Mexico is a federal republic comprising 32 federal entities. The country maintains a mixed economy and is among the larger economies in Latin America. Mexican identity continues to be shaped by historical experiences, including the colonial era, independence, and social movements, as well as ongoing migrations and global connections.
