Windale

Windale is a town and civil parish in the fictional county of Northshire, Veridia. It lies on the River Alder near the coast, about 40 kilometers from the regional capital.

The town covers about 12 square kilometers and is largely flat with gentle slopes toward the river. The temperate maritime climate produces mild winters and cool summers, with prevailing westerly winds.

Windale began as a medieval market village in the 12th century and grew through milling and coastal trade. A railway line arrived in the mid-19th century, accelerating growth, while industrial activity waned in the mid-20th century. Recent decades have seen redevelopment focused on housing, services, and tourism.

The current economy is mixed, with services, light manufacturing, and tourism as major sectors. The Windale Wind Farm on nearby hills provides renewable energy, and the port supports fishing and small-scale logistics.

As of 2020, the population is about 8,200. The community is predominantly Veridian, with increasing diversity from recent migrants. The town has a relatively high rate of home ownership and a stable consumer base for local businesses.

Notable sites include St. Mary’s Church and Windale Park. The annual Windale Festival showcases crafts, music, and local cuisine. A small museum preserves regional maritime history.

Education is provided by Windale Primary School and Windale Community College. Access is via the A12 road; Windale railway station lies on the Northshire line. The nearest international airport is roughly 60 kilometers away.
