Vyzantium is a coastal city-state in the fictional region of the Vosiran Archipelago. It functions as a major commercial and cultural hub, with a long tradition of mercantile governance and maritime expertise. The city stands on a crescent of land along a sheltered gulf, with three natural harbors, a historic Old Town ringed by walls, and a modern business district that fronts a busy waterfront.

Its origins lie as a trading outpost in the early medieval era. By the high medieval period it had grown into a mercantile republic renowned for diplomacy and shipbuilding; in the modern era it stabilized its constitutional framework and expanded regional trade.
