Vezethallás is a Hungarian neologism used in discussions of leadership perception to describe a perceptual phenomenon in which listeners attribute leadership qualities to a speaker primarily through auditory cues in group settings. The term blends vezér (leader) and hallás (hearing), and it is employed in contemporary Hungarian-language discourse to refer to how voice, tempo, and vocal presence can influence judgments of authority independent of content or demonstrated competence.

In practice, vezethallás refers to the tendency of audiences to read leadership legitimacy from signals such as clear articulation, steady speaking pace, confident intonation, volume, and turn-taking behavior. It is considered a cue-based mechanism that interacts with broader biases and cultural norms, including gender stereotypes and expectations about authority. Researchers describe it as distinct from actual leadership effectiveness, which depends on decision-making, performance, and outcomes rather than vocal traits alone.

Causes and features often discussed include voice projection, speech rate, rhythm and pausing, clarity of enunciation, and rhetorical emphasis, as well as concurrent nonverbal cues. Methodologically, investigations commonly use controlled listening experiments to isolate vocal factors while holding content constant, aiming to separate perceived leadership from substantive competence.

Critics note that vezethallás can overemphasize superficial traits, conflating charisma with capability, and they caution about cross-cultural variability and measurement challenges.
