Verschlussauslösungen, often translated as shutter releases or camera releases, are devices used to trigger the shutter mechanism of a camera. They are essential for capturing sharp images, especially in situations where camera shake would otherwise be a problem. The primary function of a Verschlussauslösung is to allow the photographer to activate the shutter without physically touching the camera body.

There are several types of Verschlussauslösungen. Mechanical cable releases, which were once very common, consist of a flexible cable with a plunger at one end and a threaded connector at the other that screws into the camera's shutter release socket. When the plunger is pressed, it pushes a rod inside the cable, activating the shutter.
