Vastuskirja

Vastuskirja is a Finnish term for a companion book that provides solutions and model answers to the exercises found in a textbook or workbook. The name is formed from vastaus (answer) and kirja (book). In practice, vastuskirja functions as a student aid for checking correctness and studying solution methods, and it helps teachers prepare explanations and assignments.

Contents and format vary by publisher and subject. Typical vastuskirja entries present a solved version of each exercise, often with step-by-step reasoning and final answers. Problems are usually organized to match the textbook, grouped by chapter and exercise number. Some editions include hints or partial solutions, while others provide only the final results with accompanying explanations in the notes.

Availability and usage patterns differ. A vastuskirja is commonly published as a separate volume that accompanies a textbook, but it can also be offered as a digital resource or as part of a teacher’s resource kit. Access is sometimes restricted to instructors to maintain examination integrity, whereas in self-study contexts it may be available to learners.
