Valthak is a fictional city-state in a medieval-fantasy setting, commonly depicted as a fortified trading hub and regional capital.

Geographically, it sits on the eastern shore of Lake Thalan near the confluence with the Iron River, guarding a major inland trade route into the northern highlands.

Historically, Valthak traces its origins to a fortress founded during the early expansion of the Valdyn leagues. It grew into a commercial center for iron, timber, and hides, and attained regional influence through strategic port and river trade.

Governing structure: The city is governed by the Assembly, a body of representatives from merchant guilds and craft halls. The magistrate, chosen by the Assembly for a one-year term, exercises executive powers and oversees the city’s administration.

Economy and infrastructure: Valthak relies on metalworking, shipbuilding, and river commerce. It operates two major ports, vibrant markets, and a legal system that handles trade disputes. The city exports iron wares, timber, and textiles.

Culture and society: The population includes artisans, sailors, farmers, and migrants from neighboring regions. Notable landmarks include the Gate of Lanterns and the Market of Lanterns, a yearly Night Market festival, and the Temple of Ash, a religious site attracting pilgrims.
