Utskriftsvy

Utskriftsvy, or print preview, is a user interface mode in software that shows how a document will appear when printed. It provides a visual map of page boundaries, margins, headers and footers, and other elements that influence the final printed page. The goal is to help users verify layout and formatting before committing a document to paper or a PDF.

In a typical utskriftsvy, the content is presented as it will appear on pages, often with options to adjust page size, orientation (portrait or landscape), margins, and scale. Users can preview how multi-page documents flow across pages, inspect where page breaks will occur, and see how images and tables align. Many programs also offer simple controls to modify formatting within the preview, such as reflowing text, resizing objects, or adding/removing headers and footers for the printed output. The preview is usually accompanied by a print command and printer settings, allowing users to choose the target printer and print configuration.

In practice, utskriftsvy is common in word processors, spreadsheet programs, and web browsers. In browsers, the print preview can reflect CSS print styles via the print media type and @page rules, which determine what content is shown and how it is formatted for printing. Print previews may not perfectly replicate the final physical output due to printer hardware differences, ink/paper types, and driver-specific adjustments, but they provide a close approximation to guide layout decisions.
