U18A0

U18A0 is a socket type used for microprocessors in certain electronic devices. It is a format for mounting processor MICs (Multi-Chip Modules) to mainboards. Mainboards with U18A0 sockets are typically used in industrial and embedded systems.

The U18A0 socket is designed to accommodate relatively large microprocessors, usually with a standard pin count of 1200 pins. This makes it a high-pin-count socket with a faceplate of 47mm x 30.8mm. With this large pin count the U18A0 can host processors with a large number of I/O pins, such as possible edge connectors and interfaces for industrial use.

Mainboards equipped with U18A0 sockets are usually used in applications requiring high performance and robustness. Industrial systems, devices operating in harsh environments and demanding embedded systems are examples of such applications.

U18A0 sockets have a lever lock release mechanism which can be actuated away from the gold contact. Beyond this, the socket might also have retention clips and substrate hooks. To limit over-tightening, the socket's installer has to thread a Nylon torque limiting tab into the self-tapping screw. After installing the socket or processor module into the mainboard it should be secured to stall any accidental dislodgment on any cotte applications.
