Toimintakyvylle, or "activity level," refers to an individual's overall level of physical activity and engagement in daily movement. The concept is commonly used in health, fitness, and behavioral sciences to assess how active a person is in their routine. Activity level is typically measured in terms of the intensity, duration, and frequency of physical activities throughout the day, including both planned exercise and incidental movement like walking, standing, or household chores.

In health contexts, maintaining a moderate to high activity level is associated with numerous benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health, better weight management, enhanced mental well-being, and reduced risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Conversely, a sedentary lifestyle—characterized by low activity levels—has been linked to adverse health outcomes, including obesity, muscle weakness, and increased stress.

Activity level is often quantified using metrics such as metabolic equivalent of task (MET) hours per week, which estimates the energy expenditure of various activities. For example, light activities like walking may contribute 1.5–2.5 METs, while vigorous exercises like running or cycling can reach 6–8 METs or higher. Guidelines from health organizations often recommend accumulating at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week, along with muscle-strengthening exercises.

Factors influencing activity level include age, occupation, lifestyle habits, access to recreational facilities, and personal motivation. Some individuals may naturally have higher activity levels due to their professions (e.g., manual laborers), while others may require structured interventions, such as fitness programs or behavioral modifications, to increase movement. Monitoring activity levels through wearable devices or activity trackers can help individuals set realistic goals and track progress toward healthier habits.
