Tietosuojanäyttöjen, known in English as privacy screens, are physical or digital barriers designed to restrict the viewing angle of a display. Their primary purpose is to prevent unauthorized individuals from seeing sensitive information displayed on screens such as computers, smartphones, or tablets. This is particularly relevant in public spaces, open-plan offices, or when handling confidential data.

The technology behind privacy screens typically involves micro-louvers or a polarizing film. When viewed from directly in front, the screen appears normal. However, when viewed from an angle, the light is either blocked or diffused, making the content unreadable or appearing black. This functionality helps protect personal data, financial information, and proprietary business secrets from shoulder surfing.

Privacy screens are available in various forms. Physical screens are often transparent films that adhere to the display surface. Digital privacy filters can also be implemented through software, though these are less common for complete viewing angle restriction. The effectiveness of a privacy screen is often measured by its viewing angle limitation, with narrower angles offering greater privacy. They are a simple yet effective tool for enhancing data security in an increasingly connected world where public screen viewing is common.
