Testivetoisuus

Testivetoisuus is a Finnish term used in some technical and organizational discussions to refer to the degree to which something is tested or designed to be testable. The word is a compound of testi (test) and vetoisuus (a suffix indicating a property), and its precise meaning is not standardized across sources. In practice, the term is often used informally to describe how easily testing can be performed and how reliable the test results are.

In software engineering, testivetoisuus is closely related to the concept of testability. High testivetoisuus implies that a component or system can be tested with clear observability and controllability. Common contributing factors include well-defined interfaces, modular architecture, comprehensive logging, deterministic behavior, and the ability to reproduce tests and failures in a controlled environment. These characteristics enable faster feedback and easier maintenance.

Beyond software, testivetoisuus can describe the extent to which processes, products, or policies are shaped by testing and evaluation data. In this usage, it reflects how much evidence from tests influences design decisions, requirements prioritization, and quality improvements.

Measurement of testivetoisuus is context-specific and often uses proxies such as code coverage, defect leakage, time to create tests, reproducibility of failures, and speed of feedback from test suites. It is commonly considered alongside other quality metrics rather than as a sole indicator of overall quality.
