Tehtävienparallellisuus

Tehtävienparallellisuus, or task parallelism, is a concept in computer science and parallel computing. It refers to the ability to execute multiple independent tasks simultaneously on different processing units. These tasks are typically distinct and do not share common data or dependencies, allowing them to run without interfering with each other.

The primary goal of task parallelism is to improve overall performance by utilizing available hardware resources more efficiently. By dividing a larger computational problem into smaller, self-contained tasks, these tasks can be distributed across multiple processors, cores, or even separate machines. This simultaneous execution can significantly reduce the total time required to complete the entire workload, especially for applications that involve many independent computations.

Examples of scenarios where task parallelism is beneficial include rendering complex 3D graphics, processing large datasets where each data point can be handled independently, or running multiple simulations concurrently. The effectiveness of task parallelism depends on the degree of independence between the tasks and the overhead associated with managing and distributing them. If tasks are too small, the communication and management overhead might outweigh the benefits of parallel execution. Conversely, if tasks are too dependent, task parallelism might not be applicable.
