Teflonlined

Teflonlined is a term used to describe surfaces or components that have been coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the polymer commonly marketed as Teflon. The coating provides low friction, non-stick release, chemical resistance, and high-temperature stability, making it useful for cookware and a range of industrial parts such as valves, bearings, seals, and linings.

PTFE coatings are applied by processes such as spray coating, dipping, or electrostatic application, followed by curing to form a durable lining. The effectiveness of a Teflonlined part depends on coating thickness, adhesion to the substrate, and operating conditions including temperature and chemical exposure. PTFE resists many solvents and acids, reduces wear, and eases cleaning, but adhesion challenges, cost, and performance limits must be considered. In cookware, typical service temperatures approach but do not exceed about 260°C; in industrial settings, limits depend on the base material and coating thickness.

Safety considerations include avoiding overheating of PTFE coatings, which can emit fumes hazardous to birds and, in some cases, humans at very high temperatures. Damaged or worn coatings should be repaired or replaced to maintain performance and prevent particulate contamination. Alternatives include ceramic or silicone-based coatings, depending on the application.
