Tastendrucks

Tastendrucks is the act of pressing a key on a keyboard or other input device, which generates a signal that the computer interprets as a character or control command. In German, the standard noun is Tastendruck; the plural is Tastendrücke, and the genitive singular is Tastendrucks. The term is used in technical and user documentation to describe the event of a key being actuated.

Mechanically, a Tastendruck occurs when a key switch changes state as the key travels from rest to actuated position and back. Different technologies produce this event in distinct ways, such as mechanical switches, membrane layers, or optical switches. The moment at which the device recognizes the press is called the actuation point, and the subsequent release returns the key to its resting state. Debounce logic in hardware or software filters out rapid, unintended fluctuations so a single press is registered once.
