Süüteelektroonika

Süüteelektroonika refers to the electronic systems used in internal combustion engines to control the ignition process. Its primary function is to generate a high-voltage spark at the correct time to ignite the fuel-air mixture within the engine cylinders. Modern ignition systems have largely replaced older mechanical breaker-point systems due to their improved performance, efficiency, and reliability.

The core components of a typical electronic ignition system include a power source (battery), an ignition coil, a distributor (in older systems), spark plugs, and an electronic control unit (ECU) or a dedicated ignition module. The ECU, often integrated into the engine control module, receives data from various sensors such as the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, and manifold absolute pressure sensor. This data allows the ECU to precisely determine the optimal ignition timing based on engine speed, load, and temperature.

In a common distributorless ignition system (DIS), individual coils are used for each spark plug or pair of spark plugs, eliminating the need for a distributor and its associated mechanical wear. The ECU directly controls the firing of these coils. This leads to more accurate spark timing, better fuel economy, reduced emissions, and smoother engine operation.
