Stromingstraject

Stromingstraject is a term used in Dutch-language discussions of flow dynamics and process analysis to denote the predicted or observed path of a moving quantity—such as air, water, traffic, or information—through a system from a source to a target. The word combines stromen (to flow) and traject (trajectory). The concept is used to visualize how forces, boundaries, and obstacles influence the route of the flow and to identify bottlenecks or opportunities for optimization.

In practice, stromingstrajecten are derived from data and models. Methods include computational fluid dynamics (CFD), network analysis, and agent-based simulation, often supplemented by field measurements or experiments. Outputs commonly take the form of flow visualizations, pathlines, or maps showing probable routes under specified conditions.

Stromingstrajecten are used in several domains. In hydrology and civil engineering, they describe water pathways in rivers, drainage networks, or urban flood scenarios. In building physics, they help assess air movement and ventilation. In logistics and human factors, they map movement of goods or people through spaces or networks. In product design or information systems, they can illustrate how information or user traffic tends to propagate.
