StentDelivery refers to the medical procedure and devices used to implant a stent within a blood vessel or other lumen. Stents are small, expandable mesh tubes designed to prop open narrowed or blocked passageways in the body, most commonly arteries. The delivery system is the crucial component that allows physicians to precisely place the stent at the intended site.

The typical stent delivery system consists of a catheter with a balloon at its tip. The stent is mounted onto this balloon. The catheter is guided through the vascular system, often using imaging guidance such as fluoroscopy, to the site of the blockage. Once in position, the balloon is inflated, expanding the stent and pressing it against the vessel wall. This action opens the narrowed artery and restores blood flow. After the stent is expanded and deployed, the balloon is deflated and withdrawn, leaving the stent in place to support the vessel.

Various types of stent delivery systems exist, tailored to different anatomical locations and procedural needs. These can include systems with varying catheter lengths, diameters, and balloon profiles. Advanced delivery systems may incorporate features for enhanced navigability, precise positioning, and secure stent deployment. The development of these systems has been critical in the advancement of minimally invasive cardiovascular and peripheral vascular interventions.
