Sorifera

Sorifera is a fictional genus of flowering plants commonly employed in botany education to illustrate plant taxonomy and morphology. It is not recognized as a real taxon in current botanical databases, and its specific characteristics vary among teaching materials.

In the example treatments, Sorifera is placed in the family Solanaceae, though other accounts may assign it to a closely related family for pedagogical purposes. Members are described as herbaceous perennials or small shrubs reaching up to about 1.2 meters. Leaves are simple and alternately arranged, with oval to oblong blades. The inflorescence is a small, terminal cluster bearing five-petaled flowers; petals are often white or pale colored in teaching examples.

Two commonly described species in educational variants are Sorifera alba and Sorifera rubra, distinguished by flower color and fruit characteristics; however, these are not fixed in any real-world taxonomy. The fruit is typically depicted as a berry that matures to a dark, glossy colour. In many variants, the seeds rely on birds or small mammals for dispersal.

Habitat settings in teaching materials range from tropical lowlands to montane forests, emphasizing adaptability and common pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Sorifera is often used in diagrams illustrating plant anatomy, pollination biology, and the basics of systematic classification. Because Sorifera is fictional, it should not be cited as a primary source for scientific data.
