Slutmontering

Slutmontering, or final assembly, is the last stage of manufacturing where a product is completed by assembling all components, wiring, and software, performing final calibration and tests before packaging. It follows subassembly and procurement and culminates in a finished product ready for distribution. The process is common across industries such as automotive, electronics, machinery, and consumer goods.

The typical process includes receiving parts, pre-assembly of modules, main mechanical assembly, fastening and alignment, electrical harnessing, software installation, calibration and adjustments, functional testing and safety checks, final inspection, and packaging with labeling. It relies on standard operating procedures, fixtures and jigs, defined torque specifications, and test rigs. Lean practices aim to balance the line, reduce waste, and implement mistake-proofing to improve quality and throughput.

Quality and compliance are central to slutmontering. Final assembly requires traceability, lot and revision control, and documentation of test results and configurations. Acceptance criteria are defined in work instructions and quality gates; non-conformities may lead to rework, corrective actions, or supplier notifications. In electronics, additional considerations include ESD-safe handling and, in some cases, cleanroom or controlled-environment requirements.

Environment and teams typically involve production operators, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and test technicians working together with production planning and logistics to ensure smooth handoffs to subassembly, procurement, and after-sales service.

Outcomes and metrics focus on delivering a reliable, tested product ready for distribution. Key indicators include first-pass yield, cycle time, throughput, and rework or scrap rates, often tracked as part of overall equipment effectiveness.
