It belongs to the evening primrose family (Onagraceae) and is characterized by its delicate, narrow leaves and clusters of small, pink to white flowers that bloom from late spring to early autumn. The plant typically grows in moist, shaded environments such as meadows, forest edges, and riverbanks, often reaching heights of 10 to 30 centimeters.

Silmäluomesi is commonly found in Finland, where it is known for its ornamental value and ecological role. Its scientific name, *anagallidifolium*, refers to its leaf shape, which resembles that of the pimpernel (*Anagallis*).
