Wildflowers are flowering plants that grow in the wild without deliberate cultivation. Ecologically, wildflowers support biodiversity by providing nectar and pollen for a variety of insects—bees, butterflies, and other pollinators—as well as food for birds and other animals through their seeds. They can have generalist or specialized relationships with pollinators and seed dispersers. Reproduction is primarily by seeds, which may be dispersed by wind, water, animals, or gravity; many species have adaptations such as burs, pods, or achenes to aid dispersal. Disturbance, such as fire or grazing, often helps maintain populations by reducing competition from woody plants.

Human interactions include restoration projects, native-plant gardening, and the maintenance of wildflower meadows that support pollinators. Conservation concerns focus on habitat loss, fragmentation, invasive species, and climate change, which can reduce native populations. Management often emphasizes protecting native habitats, restoring native plant communities, and conserving seeds in gene banks.
