Silkesatin

Silkesatin, or silk satin, is a fabric produced with a satin weave that yields a smooth, glossy surface on the right side and a flatter back. The sheen comes from the long, floating warp or weft yarns in the weave, which reflects light more than a plain weave. Although often associated with silk, silkesatin can be made from 100% silk or from silk blends with viscose, polyester, or other fibers to alter cost, weight, or care requirements.

Silkesatin can be pure silk or blends such as silk with viscose or polyester. The term covers a range of weights, typically measured in momme for silk fabrics. Higher momme counts indicate heavier, stiffer weaves; lighter options are drapier and more fluid. Care recommendations range from dry cleaning for pure silk to delicate hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle for blends, with avoidance of high heat during drying and ironing on a low setting or with a pressing cloth.
