Servicemodeller

Servicemodeller is a term used in Scandinavian languages to denote models that describe how a service is delivered, including its components, stakeholders, processes and value flows. It is a general term for frameworks, diagrams and descriptions used in service design, management and analysis.

Purpose and use: Servicemodeller help teams communicate the scope of a service, identify interfaces and dependencies, and align organizational capabilities with customer needs. They support design, governance and improvement by providing a shared representation of the service.

Common forms include service blueprints (maps that show front-stage and back-stage activities), value network diagrams, service journey maps, and architectural views such as service-oriented models or business process models. In IT, it may be linked to IT service management or IT architecture; in product-service systems, they map hardware, software, and services.

Relation to theory: The concept draws on service-dominant logic, design thinking and systems thinking. It is distinct from a strict software or hardware architecture but can integrate with frameworks like ArchiMate, BPMN, UML.

Usage and scope: Used by public sector, healthcare, telecom, and customer service organizations to plan service offerings, communicate requirements to suppliers, and guide service improvement.
