Sensationbased

Sensationbased is an umbrella term used to describe approaches, systems, or processes that place sensory perception at the center of information processing, learning, or interaction. The term can be applied across fields to indicate that perceptual experience—what users see, hear, touch, smell, and taste—drives understanding and action more than abstract rules or symbolic reasoning.

In education, sensationbased methods emphasize hands-on activities and multisensory engagement, such as concrete manipulation, demonstrations, and integrated sensory cues, intended to improve encoding and recall for diverse learners. In product design and human–computer interaction, sensationbased design prioritizes perceptible feedback and aligned sensory signals (visual indicators, audio cues, tactile responses) to communicate status, results, or errors, and to reduce cognitive load.

In art, media, and therapy, sensationbased approaches explore or use sensory experience as the primary medium or therapeutic mechanism, sometimes focusing on sensory augmentation or remediation.

Principles often cited include multisensory integration, consistency of sensory mappings, consideration of user sensory profiles, and attention to potential sensory overload or fatigue.

Limitations and criticisms note that relying primarily on sensory input may overlook abstract reasoning, may not fit all learners or users, and can raise accessibility concerns for those with sensory impairments.
