Seawoods

Seawoods is a planned residential and commercial district situated within the city limits of Navi Mumbai, in the state of Maharashtra, India. The area lies in the western part of the larger Navi Mumbai metropolis and is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Mumbai–Pune Expressway to the north, and the Ghatkopar–Dahisar suburban railway to the south. It falls under the jurisdiction of the North West Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and is part of the Navi Mumbai Economic Development area.

The name “Seawoods” was adopted during the initial township development phase in the early 2000s, which was carried out by the Seawoods Development Regulatory and Advisory (SEDA) group. The development plan was conceived as a mixed‑use settlement designed to accommodate a diverse population comprising professionals, business owners, and retirees. The layout of Seawoods incorporates residential blocks, commercial courtyards, and public spaces such as parks, a cinema hall, a library, and a veterinary hospital. A number of retail outlets, grocery stores, pharmacies and cafés operate in the commercial hubs, while small‑scale manufacturing and service businesses are concentrated along the main arterial roads.

Seawoods benefits from a robust transportation network. It is served by the Seawoods railway station on the Harbour Line of the Western Railway, which provides direct connections to central Mumbai as well as to other hubs within Navi Mumbai. Bus services operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation link the township to neighboring nodes such as Vashi, Thane, and Panvel. The proximity to the Mumbai–Pune Expressway affords easy vehicle access to the broader corridor.

The township has attracted a steady population growth of around 4–5 percent per year since its inception and boasts a high standard of living compared with many peripheral districts in the Mumbai agglomeration. According to the 2011 census data, the population of Seawoods was approximately 50,000, though estimates for 2023 place the figure marginally higher at around 60,000 residents. The dominant languages spoken are Marathi, Hindi and English. Seawoods is also home to several educational institutions, ranging from primary schools to higher‑education centers, which serve the local and wider community.
