Sauðfjárhús

Sauðfjárhús, which translates to sheep houses or sheep sheds in English, are agricultural buildings common in Iceland, designed to shelter sheep. These structures are essential for livestock management, particularly during the harsh Icelandic winters when sheep are brought indoors to protect them from severe weather conditions.

Historically, sauðfjárhús were often simple, sturdy constructions made from local materials such as stone and turf, reflecting the available resources and building techniques of the time.
