Reliefraised

Reliefraised is a term that refers to a printing technique where the image or design is raised from the surface of the paper or substrate. This is achieved through a process that creates a three-dimensional effect, making the printed area stand out visually and texturally.

The core principle behind reliefraised printing involves selectively applying ink or a raised element to specific areas of the material. Unlike traditional flat printing, where ink is applied evenly to the surface, reliefraised printing builds up layers or uses specialized inks that cure to a raised finish. This can be accomplished through various methods, including thermography, embossing, or the use of thick, viscous inks.

Thermography is a common method where a powdered resin is applied to wet ink. The piece is then heated, causing the resin to melt and fuse with the ink, creating a raised effect. Embossing, on the other hand, uses dies and pressure to physically press the paper into a raised form, often without ink, creating a debossed or embossed pattern. Certain digital printing technologies also offer the capability to print with varying ink thicknesses, allowing for a raised effect directly from the printer.

The tactile quality of reliefraised printing makes it suitable for a range of applications. It is often used in high-end stationery, invitations, business cards, and packaging to add a sense of luxury and sophistication.
