The term is distinct from stationary, which means not moving.

Common categories include paper products such as writing paper, notepads, index cards, and folders; mailing items like envelopes and mailers; writing instruments such as pens, pencils, ink, and markers; and filing or desk items such as staplers, tapes, paper clips, rulers, erasers, and adhesive notes.
