Puuöljyn

Puuöljy, often referred to by its Finnish name Puuöljyn, is a type of wood finishing oil derived from natural sources. It is typically made from drying oils such as linseed oil, tung oil, or other vegetable oils that have been modified or processed to enhance their penetration and drying properties when applied to wood. The primary purpose of puuöljy is to protect and enhance the natural beauty of wood surfaces.

When applied, puuöljy penetrates the wood grain, saturating the fibers. This process not only imparts a rich, natural look by deepening the wood's color and highlighting its texture but also provides a degree of protection against moisture and wear. Unlike surface coatings like varnishes or lacquers, puuöljy generally forms a matte or satin finish rather than a high-gloss one, maintaining a more natural feel for the wood. It is commonly used on furniture, flooring, decking, and other wooden items both indoors and outdoors.

The application of puuöljy usually involves wiping it onto the wood surface, allowing it to soak in, and then wiping off any excess. Depending on the type of oil and the desired level of protection, multiple coats may be applied. Maintenance typically involves reapplication as needed, especially in areas exposed to heavy use or environmental factors.
