Protsessorijõudlus refers to the speed and efficiency with which a central processing unit (CPU) can perform calculations and execute instructions. It is a critical factor in determining the overall performance of a computer or other electronic device.

Several metrics are used to measure processor performance. Clock speed, measured in gigahertz (GHz), indicates how many cycles a processor can execute per second. However, clock speed alone is not a complete measure as different processor architectures can perform varying amounts of work per clock cycle. Instructions per cycle (IPC) is another important metric, reflecting the average number of instructions a processor can complete in a single clock cycle.

Core count is also significant. Modern processors often have multiple cores, allowing them to handle multiple tasks or threads simultaneously, leading to improved multitasking capabilities and faster execution of demanding applications. Cache memory, a small amount of high-speed memory located on the processor itself, also plays a role by storing frequently accessed data and instructions, reducing the need to retrieve them from slower main memory.

Processor performance impacts various aspects of computing, from the responsiveness of a user interface to the speed of complex simulations and video rendering. Benchmarking software is commonly used to compare the performance of different processors under standardized workloads. Factors like thermal throttling, where a processor reduces its speed to prevent overheating, can also affect real-world performance.
