The risk management process generally follows standard frameworks: identification, assessment, prioritization, response planning, monitoring and reporting. Identification draws on workshops, checklists, and historical data. Assessment rates probability and impact, often using a risk matrix to derive severity. Response strategies include avoidance, mitigation, transfer, and acceptance. Residual risk is tracked, and organizations may allocate contingency reserves and management reserves.

Documentation and governance: a risk register records each risk, owner, status, likelihood, impact, triggers, response plan, and deadlines. Risks are reviewed by project sponsors or steering committees as part of regular governance. Tools such as Monte Carlo simulations, qualitative scoring, and a risk breakdown structure support analysis and communication.
