Many programs combine methods and include monitoring and adaptive management to reduce unintended impacts on non-target species and ecosystems.

Predator control is regulated by wildlife authorities and subject to animal welfare and environmental statutes. Debates center on effectiveness, ecological consequences, and ethics, including the risk of trophic cascades or mesopredator release after predator removal. Regions vary widely in how, when, and under what conditions predator control may occur.
